How to Maximise Space in a Small Bedroom
Estimated reading time 4 minutes
A small bedroom can be a challenge when you need a lot of storage. But with the right approach, you can maximise the space you have in a small bedroom, getting the most storage space out of even the smallest room.
As experts in bespoke storage, we’ve put together these handy tips to maximise space in your small bedroom.
Made-to-measure wardrobes
Custom, made-to-measure fitted wardrobes can be the best way to maximise space in a small bedroom. With bespoke storage, no inch of space will go to waste, as the wardrobes will be designed and built to fit your room’s exact measurements.
Sliding door wardrobes can help go that extra step to maximising space in a small bedroom. Not only are sliding wardrobes stylish, but they can suit any type of interior, plus they’re a great space-saving solution as you don’t need to factor in space to open the doors outwards.
At Kingswood at Home, we can design, build and fit your made-to-measure wardrobes. We have a variety of designs and finishes available, so we can find the right look for your home. Contact us today for a free design consultation.
Think vertical
If you don’t have much floor space in your bedroom, you should instead think vertically. You can add shelving to your walls to incorporate extra storage and also some extra styling opportunities. Shelving can work great above a desk, adding practical storage solutions if you work from home.
Taller and thinner furniture will work better in a small bedroom than short and wide. When you’re looking for a chest of drawers, find something that adds more height over depth. You’ll still get a lot of storage space, without taking up valuable floor space. You can do the same for your bedside tables too.
Utilise space under the bed
The space under the bed often goes under-utilised. Make sure to maximise this space with practical storage. Look for under-the-bed storage boxes, or even a bed that has drawers built-in. You could opt for a taller bed to give you even more storage while still taking up the same amount of floor space.
You can use under-the-bed storage for all kinds of items, but it can be especially useful for storing things you don’t need regular access to, such as seasonal clothing. As the seasons change, you can swap out your winter clothing for summer, and vice versa. This has the added benefit of saving you space in your wardrobe, as well as making finding the clothes you need much easier with less clutter.
Find multi-use furniture
A key part of maximising space in a small bedroom is to find furniture that has more than one use. For example, a stool or chair that has storage in the seat or a bed headboard that has shelving to act as a side table. A trunk or ottoman at the end of the bed can be used as a seat but is also particularly handy for storing things like extra bedding.
When you’re choosing bedside tables, perhaps a desk for home working, look for items that offer a degree of practical use as well as style. This might mean opting for items that have drawers and shelving instead of empty space.
Make the space work for you
Your small bedroom should work for your specific needs. So, if you already have an in-built wardrobe that has a lot of hanging space, but actually you need space for a chest of drawers, just put the chest of drawers in the wardrobe. This will keep it out of the way while ensuring the space suits your needs.
At Kingswood at Home, we’ll design your made-to-measure wardrobes to fit your requirements. If you need drawers over hanging space, we’ll include that. If you need shoe storage, we’ll design, build and fit the shoe storage you need, such as pull-out shoe racks. We can add jewellery storage, slimline racks on the doors, and even an in-built mini vanity unit.
We can design, build and fit bespoke storage to any size of room. It doesn’t matter if you have alcoves or even sloping ceilings, we’ll maximise the space you have with stylish and practical storage.
